3 Ways to Lead: Part 1 - Positional Lead

When you’re social dancing, your body is constantly communicating with your partner, even before you use your hands.

One of the three ways we can lead is through position.

What is a positional lead?

Your position in relation to your partner can tell them where they should or shouldn’t go.

For example, when doing a cross-body lead, opening your body creates a pathway for your partner to travel through.

But your body position can also block a pathway.

If you’re leading an underarm turn while your body is in the way, your partner knows they’re not being asked to travel across you. Your position is already giving them information about the movement.

So when you're dancing, pay attention to where your body is in relation to your partner.

Your position can be a lead all by itself.
