Progressive Basic

This common mistake will kill your flow on the dance floor

September 07, 20261 min read

Most beginners make the same mistake in the progressive basics.

They step their steps, but their body stays in place. Step here, step here, step here, feet moving, body stuck.

It works at a slow tempo. But the second the music speeds up or you want real flow in your dancing, it falls apart. The dance looks stiff instead of smooth.

The fix: keep your body moving between every step, not just on it. You're either riding your weight back or pushing off into the next step, constantly, not in stops and starts. That continuous motion is what makes a dance look elegant instead of static.

Click the video below to see how it works.

It's a small adjustment but it changes everything about how a dance feels.

This is exactly the kind of detail we work on in class and it's a great example of why the small fixes matter more than people expect.

Let’s keep things moving this month.
