ROMINA CRUZ

INSTRUCTOR

Romina’s roots are based in Guadalajara, Mexico, but her passion for dancing brought her to New York City (NYC). Her dance journey began with ballet at the age of three, which she practiced into her teenage years. She discovered salsa in high school, and after taking a class, there was no turning back. Romina has since dedicated years to honing her skills at various schools in her hometown. As her abilities developed, she was invited to compete nationally and travel to other cities to teach workshops and perform.

In 2014, she embarked on her first dance adventure, moving to NYC to perfect her salsa technique and pursue her dream of dancing in the capital of Salsa On2. For over a decade, she has performed and competed at congresses and championships as a soloist, with partners, and as a member of a team. During this time, Romina became a dance instructor at studios such as DanceSport, where she taught salsa and choreographed routines for events.

Romina has been part of dance teams such as Balmir Dance Company, Franklin Díaz, and more recently, Irôko Dance Company, where in 2020, she became a World Champion in the Large Team Division. After taking a break from professional dance, she returned in 2024 to train with Somos Candela in NYC.

Romina’s passion for dancing and sweet personality are always on display whenever she is out and about. Her salsa flair is derived from disciplines such as ballet, Afro-Cuban, and contemporary, which she has incorporated into her technique.
